Wild Thing

Room 8 have been writing character descriptions of imaginary monsters.

We got our ideas from the story "Wild Things" by Maurice Sendak

Felix Pans

By Mitchell Cummings

My wild thing is called Felix Pans.

He has no hair. Felix Pans has two eyes. . He's got a nose that is joined to his mouth, that has whiskers. Felix Pans has sharp horns. (I would not want to touch that.) He sounds like a grizzly bear that screams a lot. He smells like he's been in a lake and jungle which he has, because he lives there.

Felix Pans likes going to Fredreck's and Stiner's party on Monday, Friday and Sunday. Felix Pans just loves that pizza stew and vomit crumble, and if he gets there in the morning he will get weetbix with blood. Disgusting! Felix Pans likes going out with Bloody Guy.

Well there you go, that's Felix Pans.

My Wild Thing

By Bradley Milliken

How cool! Room 8 made some wild things. My one is called Blue Bloody Dum Dum. It has five horns, two feet, two eyes, two funny arms and lots of teeth. It has ripped clothes. He is also dumb. Also he sleeps on people's roofs. In the morning people go 'AHHHHHHHHHHH! because they get a big fright from the wild thing.

So be aware of the scary wild dumb thing and I hope it doesn't go on your roof.

The Piano

After viewing an animated video from You Tube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZJDNSp1QJA) Mackenzie Kerslake wrote this thoughtful reflection:

In the olden days there was an old man.

(I don’t know his name.) He was playing a piano. The man’s wife died. (That was very sad!) In the war the old man’s friend died. It reminds me of my great granny who died. I think the man was trying to tell people that sad things happen in life. I reckon the man was feeling scared because he might die too and he might be feeling miserable because he misses his wife, and his friend. He also might be feeling scared because he doesn’t have his wife to help him with things that are important and he can’t use his friend anymore to help him as well.

  • A tea towel
  • A tray
  • Instructions:

    • Place the middle of the string between the two ice cubes.
    • Wrap the two ice cubes and string up in the tea towel while keeping the string stuck firmly in between and press the ice cubes together for about a minute.
    • Unwrap the ice cubes and admire your handy work. Tie the string in a loop. You have completed your first ice cube earring! If you want to complete the set then try making another.

Ice Science

The Balloon Experiment

We are learning to gather data just like real scientists.

To do this we have to used our senses to observe (look at) and touch, very carefully to see what happens to our ice balloons

Ice Science

We are learning to be 'ice' scientists.

We will know we can do this when we can:

o Gather Information about ice

o Observe (look carefully)

o Investigate (DO A FAIR TEST)

o Report our findings

We used 4 ice balloons. One was a control. To the others we added a teaspoon of salt, 4 drops of food colouring and 1 teaspoon of water.

We filled in science report sheets. We drew what we saw, and wrote what we observed.

Ben Forbes said, "The salt made the ice lumpy. The salt one melted the most. The teaspoon of water made the ice smooth. The food colouring went through the cracks and the ice went black."

Yazeed said," You can see through the ice. The salt makes it smaller at the end. The salt melted the most. It made it bumpier."

Keaton said, "The water got bigger. The control had not much water. The one with food colouring had a lot of red water. The one we added water to had a lot of water."

Ritchie McCaw

Ritchie McCaw is an awesome rugby player.

He has blonde hair. He wears a red and black t-shirt. He wears red and black when he plays rugby. He wears back boots on his feet to kick and run.

He plays at a stadium. He plays for the All-Blacks or Crusaders and he is playing this Sunday and he versing Hurricanes.

I think he is an awesome player because he can score.

My Nana

My nana is my favourite person because she was in the newspaper. She won a drawing competition. She won a camera.

She has brown hair and blue eyes. She wears earings and a necklace.

Nana is an athletics teacher. On her days off she takes me to my swimming lessons. My nana does long walks with me and I like it. She does netball practice and I watch her. Me and my nana do the river walk. Sometimes i bike it on the way there. We go past a park sometimes. I get to go on the swings then we carry on. On the way we stop for a rest. After that we have a little paddle in the river. When we get out of the river we have lunch. Then we carry on. When we get to the other side we turn around and do it again. Me and Nana get really puffed.

I like my nana because she's a really good athletics teacher.

My Dad

My Dad's name is Warren. He is awesome!

He has got brown eyes like me. He is quite tall. My dad has blacky grey hair and doesn't have a fringe. My dad looks like me. My dad has the same colour skin as me. It is light brown.

My dad works at Fonterra. When he is at work he wears jeans and a t-shirt underneath a jacket. He also wears lace-up shoes. He wears a green sleeveless jacket and it says Fonterra on it.

My dad's boss is called Hamish. He likes work. (I think) My dad is in his office most of the time at work. I think he is mostly on the computer at his desk. There is a big whiteboard in his office on the wall. He and Hamish write on it sometimes. Hamish has his own desk to. Dad takes a lunchbox with to buns and an orange. Sometimes he has to work in the weekend when there is a problem. My dad works hard I think.

See this is how I like my dad! I like my dad very much because he is fun and does lots of stuff with me and Neve.

Alice Cooper

My favourite singer is Alice Cooper. When you look around his eyes it looks like he is poisoned. That's why I think he wrote a song called poison.

He has a thick jacket and pants.

Alice Cooper sings songs like "Poison" and "Feed My Frankenstine"

Some of his songs are on stage and the others are off. Poison is on and off stage and that is kind of weird.

Alice Cooper is an awesome Rock Star.

By Bradley Milliken

Pikie

Pikie is brave. He is a fireman so he does a lot of training.

Pikie has a fire helmet with a shield around his face and a torch. He has a yellow tee-shirt. The armholes are big, no enormous!

By Kiriana Wharepapa

David Villa

My favourite sports player is David Villa. He is a soccer player. He plays for a team called Barcelona.

He looks a little short. He has black hair. He likes to wear a soccer shirt.

He is from Spain. He is 21 years old.

He plays soccer with his team. His position is a striker. That means he is next to the goal all the time. He still can go into the middle. Spain won the FIFA World cup.

I like him because he is a strong player. Last night I saw a game replay. He scored 1 goal. It was a header. It was a header.

Robot Teacher

Suppose you were one of the children listening to this Robot!

The robot said to Bradley, "get working and no stopping!"
So everyone got working. After that everyone was working. v
"Very good," said the teacher. " Well done!".....and he did not need to growl all afternoon.

When the children were finished all their work they had a story. It was called "The Scariest Story In The World." The kids were scared. They did not want to listen to the story. It was about dragons.

Road Crossing

This week we have been learning about crossing roads safely. There is so much to learn so we we still need a grownup with us on the busy roads.
Here is Mackenzie checking the road carefully. She is looking right up the road to see if there is danger before she crosses.

A dragon in the library

After hearing Gavin Bishop and Joy Cowley's awesome story about the dragon friendly school library. We decided to surprise Mrs Ross by bringing one of the story characters to life. Here we are with our dragon creation. We hope you are kind to our dragon.

Writing in Room 8
In Diary we are learning to write a story in sequence about our weekend. We are learning to put capitals and full stops in the right place and to use personal voice to make our stories interesting for you our audience.

My Sister's Birthday

Yesterday it was my sister's birthday. We had KFC and other food. My brother told me to go and get him a piece of chicken. I went and got it. Then I went outside to eat there, because at church we have to eat outside. The adults have to eat inside. If we eat inside we will break the chairs. We played rugby and cricket. Then we played touch. Then we played bullrush. We went inside. Then we played donkey. Then we played put the tail on the donkey. Then we played sleeping lions. Then we went to the tennis courts and we played tennis.

Finn's Cool Weekend

In the weekend I went to my friend's house. Alex and me played play-station 2. We completed five levels. We got 14 now people but then I had to go home. We had pizza for tea but then...dad came home! He scoffed up his dinner. Then he went on the computer. He deletted my wizards file and I earned 15.000 dollars for the family of wizards. I can't play it now!

Early Memories

Leo Capener
When I was 1 had a horse and I always rode on it and when my brother came from school I jumped on him. After I jumped on him I played with him outside and we played tag and catch. When I was four I went to Wellington on the plane.
Ben Forbes
One time in my early memories I went to Grandma's home. It was the first time I had been there. I was too rough with the dogs and they bit my hand...
Then I ran to a chair and climbed on it.
